I have a moral dilemma concerning leather jackets. Leather jackets are the ultimate cool girl outerwear and I really want one, but I’ve been a vegetarian for the past 16 years, so I feel a little conflicted. I do wear leather belts and shoes, but something that I wear around my shoulders just feels a bit too intimate, if that makes any sense. It’s enveloping me. I’ve thought about vegan leather, but most of the ones I’ve seen and liked are made of PVC and that’s just toxic. Leather at least is a natural material and lasts quite a long time, so it seems more environmentally friendly. It is an interesting question to pose, is there anything you wouldn’t wear for moral reasons? I completely respect Stella McCartney’s stand on not using leather, skins and fur in her collections.
What do you think, friends? Get one? Say hellz to the NO!? I tried on the Madewell jacket and I just felt so badass when I put it on! I just keep on going round in circles. It requires more thought, although sometimes I think I’m just over-thinking it. Maybe vintage leather is the way to go? Or just stick to my guns.
